Critiquing
Many of my clients love the art of writing and even have a manuscript completed, but have no idea how to go about editing it or finding a publisher. As a writer it can be very difficult to edit your own work and sometimes an extra pair of eyes is really helpful, especially if you feel stuck or in a rut.
So, to combat the dreaded writer's block I offer a critiquing service for other writers which involves a deep analysis of your manuscript. Areas I look at include: the flow, pacing, structure, characterisation (if any), case studies, tone, grammar, writing style, etc.
The main aim of a book critique is not to criticise your work but to give you an idea of the areas that might need a little improvement. If I think that your manuscript has a chance of being published, I will certainly let you know.
Edits and Rewrites
As a fully qualified editor, I often take on draft manuscripts that could benefit from rewrites and a decent edit. You may be an academic that has written a manuscript in an academic style, but would like to use more relateable language to appeal to a wider audience. Similarly, you might be confused about how to structure your book.
I see these projects as a sort of puzzle, and I love the challenge of taking on a rough draft of a manuscript, and giving it a good polish!
Mentoring
Writing a book is one of the most difficult things in the world. Where to start? Where is the story going? How does it end? So, it really helps to have someone to swap ideas with and guide you through the whole process. Many of my clients are talented writers who just need a sounding board to discuss their doubts and uncertainties, and someone to suggest ideas and steer them back on the right path. So, if you are looking for a mentor to help develop your manuscript, then contact me!
Proposal/Synopsis for Publishers
How you send your manuscript into a publisher is very important. Publishers take in thousands of manuscripts every year and many of them are not read at all. In many cases, it is because the author has failed to prepare a proper synopsis.
A proposal is essentially a marketing document outlining why you are the best person to write your book, why your book will sell, who will buy it etc. It should also include a chapter breakdown and a couple of sample chapters.
If I think your manuscript has a good chance of being published, I will help you with the proposal and suggest a number of publishers who might be interested. Of course, there is still no guarantee that your book will be published, but it will improve your chances of capturing their attention!
